A car dealership in Andrews has launched a promotion that's  stirring up all sorts of controversy.  The Benny Boyd dealership is giving away guns with the purchase of any new car.  General Manager Strate Colbath says new car buyers will have their choice of an A-R-15, a deer rifle or a handgun.  And, Colbath says $500 gift cards are also available, if you don't want a gun.  Colbath says the promotion is a great way to grab attention and celebrate the Second Amendment.

Council Opposes Fast Tracking Electric Rate Increases

The city council in El Paso is reaffirming its opposition to a bill that could change the way electric companies are allowed to raise their rates.  Opponents say House Bill 1535 would give power companies more authority to sidestep rate change approval from local cities. The measure has already been approved in the Texas House, and a similar bill is up for consideration in the Senate.

Lawmakers Vote To Decriminalize Marijuana

A bill to decriminalize marijuana in the Lone Star State has been given initial approval by a House committee.  The Criminal Justice committee has approved House Bill 507 by a narrow margin.  The measure would make possession of up to an ounce of marijuana a civil offense punishable by a fine up to $250.  Democrat Joe Moody of El Paso is the bill's sponsor.

Police Nab Suspect On Shooting And Burglary Charges

A Las Cruces man is behind bars for shooting an 18-year-old man and stealing property out of a police cruiser.  Police say they arrested Adrian Hortelano for the shooting, and then found a laptop, bullet-proof vest, ammunition and other items he allegedly stole from a patrol car.  He's been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence and burglary.  Meanwhile, the shooting victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Accident Kills El Paso Man

El Paso Police suspect excessive speed and alcohol may have played a role in a fatal rollover crash yesterday.  Police say 33-year-old David Pinedo crashed his S-U-V into the median near Dyer and Manila early Wednesday morning.  He was pronounced dead a short time later at University Medical Center.  A 29-year-old female passenger in his vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
