All good things must come to an end so even greater things can happen! That was the case for Jefferson High School.

You might remember that this past Summer Jefferson High School was demolished to make improvements to the school that included making the campus more “modern.”

Jefferson High School has been around for 75 years and the news about the iconic school being demolished to be used as a new parking lot saddened many, but this parking lot now sits next to the school’s brand new three story school that features many new amenities.

Last week El Paso Independent School District celebrated the completion of its new three-story Jefferson High School.

This state-of-the-art campus is replacing the 100-year-old red-brick building that was the original site for Burleson School before later becoming Jefferson High School.

“At El Paso ISD, we believe in honoring our longtime traditions while incorporating new learning spaces that allow our students to stay inspired and thrive,” said Superintendent of Schools, Diana Sayavedra. “ ‘Viva La Jeff!’ is not just a school chant, but something that is taken to the heart in our El Paso ISD community.”

The new school has brand new amenities including a brand new weight room and a new baseball field at Washington Park.

In attendance at the school’s ribbon cutting ceremony was Jefferson Alum and El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego.

Judge Samaniego has always been proud to be called a Jefferson Silver Fox Alum and he showed up to the ceremony to celebrate this milestone for all past, current and future Silver Foxes in his high school letterman jacket.

My favorite memories of coming to Jefferson High School included playing football and developing lifelong friendships,” said Judge Samaniego. “The teachers at Jefferson gave me the foundation to be successful and serve my community now as your County Judge, and for all of it, I am grateful.”
