El Paso Wrestling Fans to Be in National Spotlight Thanks to AEW
Since they launched in 2019, All Elite Wrestling has become one of sports entertainment's most popular franchises. Now, El Pasoans will have an opportunity to see a nationally televised AEW show at the El Paso Coliseum.
This announcement is a major coup for the Coliseum and El Paso Sports Commission, since this will be their first time in El Paso. In addition, it will be a live televised event on TBS. Superstars like Chris Jericho, MJF, Sting, Jade, and Vickie Guerrero among many other AEW superstars will be in El Paso for the show.
Founded in 2019, by CEO, GM and Head of Creative Tony Khan, AEW is professional wrestling that rivals the WWE. Since its inception, it continues to grow in popularity by offering more of a throwback style that is reminiscent of pro wrestling in the 1980s, minus the cartoon characters from that period.
Although professional wrestling has a long and storied history in the Sun City, just a handful of nationally televised shows have been held in El Paso. On February 9th, 1998, World Championship Wrestling brought a Monday Nitro card to the Don Haskins Center, featuring, Hulk Hogan and the NWO, Sting, Randy Savage, Goldberg, and many more stars. About five and half years later, the WWE held a Smackdown show at the Haskins Center, which featured hometown superstar Eddie Guerrero. The WWE also taped a series of Superstars shows in 1989 at the Convention Center, featuring Hogan, Savage, the Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant, and many more stars.
Tickets for the February 8th show will go on sale next Friday, December 9th at 10 a.m. They can be purchased at the El Paso County Coliseum box office or online at Ticketmaster.com. Fans can also follow sports_ElPaso on Snapchat as well as @EPSportsComm on Twitter for any presale codes for the big event.
