3-Acre Pickleball Entertainment, Dining Venue Planned for El Paso
The owners of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in El Paso will be taking a swing at El Paso’s growing pickleball scene.
Triple Tap Ventures announced that it has partnered with developer EPT Land Communities to build a new entertainment and dining venue featuring multiple pickleball courts on the city’s west side.
What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is the fastest growing social sport in America. The game combines elements of badminton, tennis and ping-pong.
According to various sources on the internet, it is most popularly played as doubles on a court similar to the dimensions and layout of a badminton court. The rules are a mix of tennis and ping pong.
Equipment consists of an oversized ping pong paddle and a small plastic ball similar to a wiffle ball.
As for why it’s called pickleball, the most popular story is that it was named after the game’s inventor’s dog, Pickles, who was known to run off with the ball while it was still being played.
Where on El Paso’s West Side?
The pickleball entertainment complex will be built in Montecillo, the mixed-use development off North Mesa that is home to Topgolf.
The 3-acre site at 400 Vin Rambla sits between Top Golf and iFly.
“With fantastic neighbors like Top Golf, iFLY and so many top attractions and high-end apartments here and more coming to Montecillo, pickleball seemed to be a natural fit for this prime location,” the company CEO said in a news release.
According to the release, the planned venue will have 10 pickleball courts, as well as a restaurant, bar, and patio area. Areas for outdoor concerts and other events as well as outdoor lawn games will be part of the mix.
There is no word at this time on when construction of the facility is to begin or when it's expected to open.
