The community is invited to join ‘Mija, Yes You Can’ as they celebrate their four-year journey with their 4th annual Mija Market.

The market was postponed back in March due to severe weather but the organization rescheduled the event for a special “Cinco De Mija” celebration that happens to fall on Cinco De Mayo.

For the third consecutive year, the Mija Market will be hosted outside Chuco Relic Central, located at 3750 Gateway Blvd East. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 5th from 11am to 4pm.

“What’s special about this market is that it is one of the city's largest markets showcasing women-owned businesses,” said Iris Lopez, Founder and Executive Director for Mija, Yes You Can.

The Mija Market, which is the organizations primary fundraising event for their scholarship program, offers a diverse range of products from over 30 vendors, spanning from jewelry to candles, pet accessories, and local food trucks.

"Education is one of our organization’s main pillars," stated Lopez. "By empowering women through education, we aim to foster lasting change within our community."

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in the Mija raffle, held every 20 minutes, with no purchase necessary for entry. However, winners must be present to claim their prizes. Guests can also enjoy live music from DJ Rach Oh, The PIE Sisters, and a special Mariachi performance from Mariachi Los Pasajeros.

“Our organization has gone through so many changes in the last few years but one thing that remains consistent is the love and support we receive from the community,” said event organizers. “So this market is not only a celebration for us, but for our community as well.”

Food truck vendors will also be onsite, and the ‘Mijas’ will have their Mija pop-up for community members to collect new Mija gear.

Past Mija Market’s have also served as a way for the organization to support other nonprofit organizations as part of their philanthropy pillar.

Past partnerships include The Center against sexual and family violence, and just last year the organization collected feminine hygiene products for “Her Pantry.”

This year The Mijas will be partnering up with “A Home To Bark & Purr.” This local nonprofit helps pets in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter, and community outreach.

Anyone who brings a donation of pet supplies will receive a slice of Mija birthday cake and a ‘Mija, Yes You Can’ cookie courtesy of Honeybee’s Sweets & Treats.
