How A Fort Worth, Texas Man Allegedly Scammed His Way To Over $1 Million
In Fort Worth, Texas, there's a situation developing that sounds like an absolute nightmare. Eight people are accusing a man of scamming them out of thousands upon thousands of dollars. In total, he's allegedly scammed his victims out of more than $1 million.
How Does A Person Allegedly Make Off With Over A Million Dollars?
According to reports, the alleged scam wasn't hi-tech and it didn't involve gift cards or crypto. It all started with an investment. A man allegedly told people he needed money to purchase vehicles at auction so he could flip them. In return, he'd pay back the money plus a cut of the profit. The setup supposedly looked like this:
- Ask people if they'd like to "invest" money in flipping some cars
- Draw up contracts and paperwork, and make everything look professional
- Get thousands of dollars
- Payback small amounts to make it seem like it's working
- Disappear
Supposedly, he just made off with most of the money. What's really strange is that no one knows what happened to any of it. The man accused of scamming all of these people isn't living a lavish lifestyle. No one knows where the money went.
Who Can You Trust Anymore?
Another aspect of the alleged scam was that these people were friends or acquaintances of the accused. He was a real estate agent and supposedly took money from one of his clients. He even supposedly scammed his next-door neighbor out of around $60,000.
It begs the question, who can you trust?
We're constantly seeing news reports of scams involving scammers pretending to be law enforcement officers, the IRS, and even judges. There are scams involving made-up missing children. It feels like you're constantly having to question what you're seeing and hearing.
Some of the people who handed over money to this alleged scammer say they had their concerns, but the paperwork and prospect of making so much money made it too easy to go along for the ride. It goes to show, trust your gut, and if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
