Popular Spice Used in Arizona Being Recalled Over ‘Dangerous Toxin’
Food safety experts across Arizona are sounding the alarm over the latest food safety recall. This time, the recall affected a popular spice used in kitchens across our state.
Several brands of this popular spice were found to have elevated levels of a dangerous toxin, which poses a significant health risk.
Arizona Cooks: Check Your Cabinet for One of These Brands
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises consumers to check their pantries. Several brands of ground cinnamon have been listed in this product recall.

Elevated lead levels were found in certain cinnamon brands after testing. Lead exposure can pose a significant health risk in children and adults.
According to the FDA, consumers should stop using the affected products and dispose of the Ground Cinnamon and the associated products from these affected brands:
- El Servidor
- El Chilar
- Marcum
- SWAD
- Supreme Tradition
- Compania Indillor Orientale
- ALB Flavor
- Shahzada
- Spice Class
- La Frontera
Since these spice products have a long shelf life, check your home cabinets and throw them out immediately. The recalled cinnamon was sold in various packaging types and sizes, including 7-ounce and 11-ounce jars, with expiration dates as late as December 2026.
What To Do If You Think You've Been Exposed to Toxic Lead in Arizona
If you believe you or someone in your household has been exposed to elevated lead levels, speak to your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Toxic lead exposure usually doesn't have immediate or obvious symptoms, so you'll have to be tested to see if you've been exposed.

Lead exposure is particularly dangerous for children and could cause developmental issues and other severe health problems.
The lead contamination was discovered by the Department of Agriculture and Markets and later confirmed by the FDA.
