Is ‘Dishonored’ Bethesda Softworks’ Answer to ‘Assassin’s Creed’?
Bethesda Softworks (The Elder Scrolls, Fallout New Vegas) has just released the debut trailer for their latest title Dishonored.
At first glance it seems a familiar world- an assassin running and climbing around a city to kill people from the shadows in an apparently medieval world- but you’ll soon notice that the technology is way out of place. This isn’t the past, this is the future, and you’re dealing with a totalitarian government who wields insane mech suits to oppress the people. And by oppress, we mean “set on fire and explore into tiny chunks.”
If the world (and those suits) look a bit familiar, that might be because Half-Life 2 art director Viktor Antonov is behind it.
In Dishonored you’ll play a former bodyguard to the Empress who was framed for her murder. You escape with the help of a mysterious figure who gives you mysterious powers, supernatural abilities that help you slow down time and better kill people. Teleportation, possession- you’ll have a lot of different ways to go about it, and expect all of your choices to have consequences later on in the game.
This four and a half minute trailer is mostly cinematics but it gives you an idea of how the game will play, as well as the badass mask you’ll wear and the powers and gadgets you can wield. Looks like Bethesda’s got another hit on their hands- expect Dishonored to hit Xbox 360, PS3 and PC later this year.
