The structure rising in Juarez, across from downtown El Paso, seems to be about as tall as Chuco's tallest building. Only certain people need to worry about it though.

Peeps in the 915 are asking questions about the big ass tower going up south of downtown El Paso, most wondering what it's going to be ... or do.

The truth is, despite all the weirdness in the rest of the world ... Russia, China, Mexican drug cartels, etc ... there isn't anything sinister happening here. Unless you're up to something.

El Pasoans, and pretty much anybody else within a few miles of the border between El Paso and Cuidad Juarez can't help but notice the "skyscraper" being built about a mile from downtown El Paso.

Is it truly going to be a skyscraper? A rocket launch pad? A "spy" platform? Yes. To the last one, anyway. Well, sort of ... it is a spy platform but it's only concerned with certain people and activities.

It's a surveillance platform for the Chihuahua State Police who are moving their public safety headquarters to Juarez. Data gathered by the tower will be used to track commercial trucks from the time they leave their industrial park in Juarez until they cross into the USA.

In April of 2022, Chihuahua Gov. Maru Campos sent a memorandum of understanding to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott about the tower and $200 million surveillance program.

The tower will be part of a Chihuahua state surveillance technology program that includes 1,791 license plate reading cameras; 74 drones; 3,065 pan-tilt-zoom cameras; 4,800 fixed cameras; 102 security arches; and 807 workstations, according to Campos’ memorandum to Abbott. - El Paso Inc

Sounds legit but many are worried data gathered may be used for other purposes or info gathered on innocent American/Hispanic Americans going to Juarez may be sold or otherwise, illegitimately utilized.

There's a lot of mistrust when it comes to Mexican authorities these days so, as you might imagine, many people north of the border are skeptical. We'll see I guess ...
