Help Preserve Local History On El Paso Giving Day

I'm a huge fan of El Paso History and that's why I love the El Paso County Historical Society. They have been working for almost 70 years to maintain archives of photos, documents, and other items of history of our city and region. Unfortunately that costs a lot of money, but on Thursday, October 20, you can help the El Paso County Historical Society with a donation during El Paso Giving Day. WHAT DOES THE SOCIETY DO?

The El Paso County Historical Society maintains a physical and digital archive of over 25,000 items pertaining to the history of this region at the 109-year-old Burges House, a Texas Historic Landmark. The Burges House is a gorgeous home that I have visited extensively. You can check out the history of the home by clicking here.

LOST HISTORY
Sadly, history fades. Nine years ago El Paso lost a 130-year-old structure that once housed the law office of John Wesley Hardin. John Wesley Hardin was a famous gunslinger in the late 1800's. He was also a lawyer who had his offices at the intersection of San Antonio and S. El Paso Streets, across the street from the Camino Real Hotel, itself a historic landmark in El Paso. It was lost in a tragic fire. 130 years of history, gone in four hours.

The El Paso County Historical Society is run by an all-volunteer board that means that every dollar donated goes to maintaining the archives and Burges House. Please think about donating to the El Paso County Historical Society this El Paso Giving Day and help us maintain El Paso history.
