For many, many years KLAQ has run Million Koins for Kids, our in-house charity that distributes money to some really great children’s charities here locally. If you’ve ever paid to play a song during a Radiothon, if you’ve ever had the winning bid for rock memorabilia, or if you’ve ever been on a team in the KLAQ Golf Tournament, then you have already donated to Million Koins for Kids. So…thank you!

One of the great MKFK charities that I’m especially proud to be associated with is Candlelighters. They have a very specific mission: enriching the lives of children who have cancer. They have camps, they offer financial assistance and they have programs that help those going through this horrible disease cope with the daily challenges. And not just the kids; there are resources for the whole family who are trying to deal with a cancer diagnosis. For example, Camp Courageous is a week long summer camp for the kids with cancer. They ALSO have Camp Bravo a week later for the siblings of the pediatric patients. Sometimes the brothers and sisters can feel forgotten and a week with other kids going through the same thing can be invaluable. Other camp weeks focus on the whole family and kids too young to go to the regular camp.

With the return of Million Koins for Kids, KLAQ will redouble our efforts to raise funds for great organizations like the Candlelighters. We’ll let you know when our fundraising efforts are underway. We promise to make it fun!

In the meantime, there are donation bins set up throughout the region. As the Candlelighters say, no child should have to fight cancer alone. I’m glad that we’ve got them as one of our associated charities.
