It's not just Texas, New Mexico and Arizona either ... the FBI says everybody in the USA should stop sending certain texts and China is to blame.

China hacked almost all the major US cell phone carriers and can now read text messages. The recent cyber attack seemed to be aimed mostly at peeps in government positions and/or with political connections.

They can still intercept messages from thousands of people though so, heads up.

First of all, know this: Messaging from iPhone to iPhone or Android to Android is safe, messaging from one to the other is not. The FBI has been on to this since last spring but now want to make everyone aware.

Now even the FBI and CISA, the US cyber defense agency, are warning Americans to use responsibly encrypted messaging and phone calls where they can. The backdrop is the Chinese hacking of US networks that is reportedly “ongoing and likely larger in scale than previously understood.” - forbes.com

How Can I Protect Myself?

Apps like Signal and WhatsApp are fully encrypted and safe for iPhone to Android texting.

The FBI official warned that citizens should be “using a cell phone that automatically receives timely operating system updates, responsibly managed encryption and phishing resistant MFA for email, social media and collaboration tool accounts.” - forbes.com

To be honest, I'm not even sure what some of that means. Your carrier can probably answer any questions you may have.
