The monsoon typically ends at the end of September, but it seems as if Mother Nature didn’t get that memo because the borderland has been experiencing some heavy rain the past several days and it won’t be stopping anytime soon.

According to the National Weather Service, El Paso has received close to 7 inches of rain so far this year. Last year around this time, the borderland had around 7.26 inches of rain. Looking at this weekend’s forecast makes me think that El Paso could put itself above average when it comes to rainfall totals.

El Paso Weekend Forecast:

Storm chances are expected to stick around through the weekend with chances for showers increasing every evening.

Friday afternoon was already an eventful day as heavy rain passed through and thunder made for a noisy surprise this afternoon.

Chances for scattered showers and more thunderstorms are expected tonight.

Saturday could be another wet day as storm chances are expected to remain at 70% chance throughout the day. Clouds will stick around and afternoon highs are expected to reach the mid-70s, but rain-cool air could drop those temperatures.

Sunday is expected to be a very active weather day as well with chances for showers and thunderstorms remaining at 70% throughout the day as well as afternoon highs expected to reach 73 degrees.

Rain or Shine, Local Events Plan To Continue:

This weekend is expected to be a busy one as many local events are scheduled throughout the weekend.

Chalk The Block is still scheduled to go on this Saturday and Sunday and event organizers urge locals who plan on attending the event to prepare in advance for unsuspecting weather.

“The event always happens rain or shine,” said event organizers.

The Locomotives are set to have their final game of the season and as of now, the game will go on, but be prepared for delays if the weather decides not to cooperate with us on Saturday.

Local bar "Later, Later" was set to have a block party before the Locomotives game, but has since canceled that event due to the weather.

Although the forecast doesn’t look to be the greatest for outdoor events this weekend, preparing in advance for the worst is the best way to go this weekend so you can still enjoy the amazing events El Paso has to offer.
