Here Comes Summer – As El Paso Heats Up, Be Safe
We're not even a month into spring and El Paso is already seeing summer temperatures as almost triple digit highs are expected this weekend.
The Farmer's Almanac says El Paso should get a break, temperature - wise, from the record setting highs we had over the last 2 years. Apparently, Mother Nature doesn't read the Farmer's Almanac.
After only about a 3 week run, it looks like spring is over. The high Saturday, April 12th, is expected to be 96. Here are some tips for dealing with the heat.
The last couple of years have been scorchers here in the 915 and I was really hoping the almanac's prediction for us to be cooler and wetter was going to come true. Now I'm starting to wonder.
Even if our temps do stay more "normal", it still gets pretty hot around here ... we're the 3rd fastest warming city in the USA ... and you need to be safe dealing with the heat.
Heat Safety Tips
Some safety tips are simple, common sense things. Don't go outside if you don't have to, wear loose, lightweight and light colored clothes, drink plenty of water ... sorry, beer and soda don't count here ... and make sure your pets are inside and comfy. If outside, be sure they have plenty of water and access to shady/cool areas.
DON'T LEAVE PETS OR PEOPLE INSIDE VEHICLES EITHER.
Be sure you check on older friends and family regularly too. For more tips, visit ready.gov.
If you don't have air conditioning or your AC breaks down, find a cool place to hang out like the library or a shopping mall. The city of El Paso also has several "cooling centers" where peeps are welcome to hang out. Learn more here.
If you can swing a little getaway, leave town. There are many, cooler places very close to El Paso.
