Now is the time we're going to start to see if El Paso was able to abide by social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols during the holiday season. We were able to get through Thanksgiving without a big spike, but did the vaccines give people a false sense of security? It's one of the reasons they are waiting to open schools. We need to wait and see where the numbers go.

Yesterday, the numbers were going in the wrong direction. There were 2 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 1,489. On top of that, there are currently 566 deaths that are currently under investigation. There was also 511 new cases announced, which brings that up to 100,944 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

The number that is probably the worst though came Wednesday morning when the amount of patients hospitalized with the virus jumped 64 people, up to 447 total. Of those that are in the hospital, 157 are in intensive care, and 119 are on ventilators. So I'll wrap this up with how I seem to wrap up almost every article at this point. We still aren't out of the woods yet. This is still very much going and will continue to be. Please:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Keep your distance
  3. Wear a mask

If we continue to do that while the vaccines do their work, we can hopefully get out of this as best as we can.
