The Mayor Of El Pa$o Love$ Pet$ Thi$ Much
El Paso's mayor just made a huge donation to a fairly new animal welfare/rescue league that helps a number of local organizations and individual pet owners.
The Borderland Animal Welfare Collaborative, (BAWC), works with over 20 rescues, shelters, and municipalities throughout the El Paso area as well as some individual pet owners and "rescuers".
Like most animal welfare and rescue leagues, the BAWC could use a little help themselves and El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson just answered that call by donating his entire, January salary.to them.
Mayor Johnson is a big animal lover who named the tequila company he founded after a dog, El Perro Grande, modeled his bottles after a chihuahua and made that DOG-gone huge donation to the BAWC.
As generous as that was, the foundation still needs help to continue their work. They currently help/support almost 30 different animal welfare groups including the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, the Cat Rescue Corporation, Law N Paws, Mutt Love Dog Rescue, Stick House Sanctuary and more.
Among their projects, BAWC hopes to give $1,500 in supplies to local animal rescue organizations and maintain a medical fund so people who rescue sick or injured animals aren't stuck with big time medical bills.
They also want to establish "Pet Pantries" to give pet owners going through hardships access to supplies they need to care for their pets, rather than having to make the heart wrenching decision to turn them over to a, (probably overcrowded), shelter.
A worthy organization indeed and a stellar example of community support and giving from Mayor Johnson. To make a donation yourself, click here.
