The final Joanna Store in El Paso, Texas is officially going to close its doors for good.

The lone Joann store, located at 10501 Gateway Blvd West inside the Yarbrough Plaza, is preparing to close after the prominent fabric and crafts retailer- along with over 40 other Texas stores- failed to acquire a buyer for the second time. With over 80 years of history, Joann Fabrics announced the closure of all of its roughly 800 U.S. stores following the company's second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing within a year, attributed to declining consumer demand and inventory challenges.

Initially, Joann planned to shutter 500 locations; however, after an asset auction, the new ownership group opted for a complete liquidation. Going-out-of-business sales are set to commence immediately across all stores, with gift cards accepted until Friday. The company's website and mobile app will remain operational during this period.

When Will the Final Joann Store in El Paso, Texas Close For Good?

Speaking to the El Paso Times, a sales representative at the El Paso store said the store is expected to close in mid-May. With the onset of the closure, the store is currently having a sale of 20%, which I think we can expect that to go up as the final days approach.

It's been a rough start to the year, and 2024 was not that great for many big brands either; last year alone, many retailers like Rite Aid, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walgreens and Big Lots announced several store closures of locations that were underperforming. And we've seen bankruptcy announcements from places like Red Lobster and a looming bankruptcy announcement from Hooters is expected soon.
