The El Paso Fire Department is looking into 6 fires that have occurred within city parks in the last couple months.

The El Paso Fire Department sent out a news release regarding recent fires the department were investigating. In the past two months, there have been six fires within El Paso city parks that involved playground equipment.

Two of the fires investigated were accidental, two were intentionally set and the last two are still under investigation. When playground equipment is damaged, it could make the playground unusable  while the city works to replace or repair the playground equipment.

The El Paso Fire Department would like to give the public the following tips to help keep the playground and public safe:

  • Do not smoke on or near playground equipment
  • Keep potential ignition sources (like grills) away from playground equipment
  • If you see potential vandalism of City Park equipment, call 911
