El Paso Couple Compete on New Game Show ‘The Cube’
TBS has a brand new game show where contestants have the opportunity to win some real cash! "The Cube" which is hosted by Dwayne Wade, former Miami Heat shooting guard says, is based on the UK game show of the same name where two-person teams get nine shots to complete seven physical tasks, all while locked inside a plexiglass box to win a cash prize of up to $250,000. Sounds simple right? Well, it's a bit more daunting that it sounds.
The first episode premiered on June 10th, and while stumbling on a clip, I discovered the first episode actually featured El Pasoans! The couple worked together and won a total of $50,000! Amazing right? Here's where my little El Paso heart nearly exploded, the couple, TJ and Samantha Stukes both were representing Northeast El Paso!
The Stukes run a gym in Northeast El Paso — Southwest Desert Hoops — that trains adults as well as at-risk youth athletes in their community and help them get into college. Their mission on the game was to get some money to help upgrade their gym equipment. Samantha, the CEO and founder of Southwest Desert Hoops is an Andress High school graduate, and TJ, who played for the Harlem Wizards got a little emotional at one point when talking about how much the organization means to them.
The Stukes did a great job, and actually had the opportunity to compete for more, but decided to stay with the $50,000. Check out how great they did in the video below!
