In this extreme heat, it's not uncommon for many El Pasoans to choose to stay indoors! Whether you're binge-watching a new series, or popping into your favorite watering hole for a drink, we're all looking for an excuse to stay inside a well air-conditioned place!

And now, it’s not considered a bad thing! With scorching temps outside and low-cost internet inside, El Paso just ranked 14th in a new national study on the best cities for doing, well, nothing! The study by Renuity Home, released just in time for National Lazy Day on August 10, analyzed 100 of the most populous U.S. cities based on their “couch-friendliness.” Turns out, El Paso excels at affordable Wi-Fi, food delivery, and good old-fashioned lounging.

Couch Potato Friendly States

So what exactly makes a city couch-friendly? The folks at Renuity Home crunched the numbers across 12 different comfort-boosting factors; everything from internet prices and streaming access to food delivery and just how many residents are happy to skip leg day. After sizing up the nation’s biggest cities, El Paso earned a cozy spot at No. 14 out of 100.

El Paso’s Couch Potato Credentials

El Paso earned its cozy 14th-place ranking thanks to a few standout factors that make it ideal for laid-back living. Most impressively, the city has the lowest average monthly internet cost in the entire country at just $57.50, so you can binge your favorite shows without sweating over your bill! The study also noted El Paso’s strong access to food and grocery delivery services, making it easy to stay put when hunger strikes- which I can attest, comes in very handy!

On top of that, the city scored higher than average in the percentage of physically inactive residents, suggesting plenty of locals are already embracing the art of chilling. And with the desert heat in full swing, it’s no surprise El Pasoans are opting to stay indoors, kick back, and enjoy the A/C.

So if you needed an excuse to cancel plans, stay in your comfiest clothes, and order tacos from the couch, consider this your official sign! With National Lazy Day coming up on August 10, there’s no better time to embrace the El Paso way: low effort, high comfort, and strong Wi-Fi. After all, in a city this good at lounging, taking it easy might just be a local sport.
