Eddie Guerrero Remembered and Celebrated on 53rd Birthday
One of El Paso's most recognizable athletes celebrated a birthday today. The late Eddie Guerrero would have turned 53, but he passed away nearly 15 years ago. Social media was busy remembering the former world champion, who turned "lie, cheat, and steal" into his WWE on-screen persona. Guerrero is known as one of the most popular pro wrestlers of all-time, and he always claimed El Paso as his home.
If you never had the opportunity to watch Eddie wrestle, there are plenty of DVDs available that were released during and after his career was cut short.
I was lucky enough to see Eddie wrestle on a few different occasions. The first was when WCW Monday Nitro was live at the Don Haskins Center. After the show, we caught up with Eddie at Bombardiers on North Mesa and I was lucky enough to have a photo taken of the two of us.
What a lot of people do not know is that Chavo Guerrero Jr. worked at Bombardiers as a bartender while he briefly lived in El Paso. Chavo brought Eddie to the bar that night and as you might expect, they were the center of attention.
Here is a small sample of the tributes that Eddie received today on Twitter.
