Jose Campuzano is a well-known local Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach who was violently attacked outside the George Dieter bar strip in east El Paso. Police told KVIA News that witnesses stated Campuzano appeared intoxicated and stumbled into another man but the family says Campuzano attempted to stop a fight that was happening in the parking lot. He was then attacked by several individuals who pulled him to the ground and viciously beat him.

Jose's cousin Gabriela Campuzano told KTSM her cousin wasn't one to start fights, he jumped in to help the other people who were getting attacked. He was found unresponsive after being repeatedly stomped, and was intubated, and was listed in critical but stable condition per KVIA News.

Campuzano's family told KTSM they were relieved to see him wake up on Monday night. The El Paso Police Department is still investigating the incident and is asking anyone with information to come forward.

The family is also gathering donations through a GoFundMe page to help with Jose Campuzano's mounting medical bills. Campuzano is still in the ICU in an El Paso hospital.

If you have any information on the attack on Jose Campuzano, please contact Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-8477 (TIPS) or leave a tip online at the Crime Stoppers of El Paso website.
