Big Bucks For El Paso Firefighters, Safety Tips For You
Glazer's Beer And Beverage, distributer for Coors Banquet, teamed up with them to raise money for local firefighters and, (so far), have raised over $40K.
A one year campaign, Banquets For The Brave, is raising money for local fire stations to provide support for those brave men and women who "run in, while others run out".
The money goes toward care and equipment to help firefighters.
I did a series of remotes from several El Paso bars to help raise awareness of this cause and am pleased to say the total donated so far is not only big, there's more $$ coming as the campaign continues.
How Does Banquets For The Brave Work?
To date, they've donated over $43K to El Paso Local 51 fire stations and they're not done. They plan to keep giving $0.50 from every case of Coors Banquet purchased through December 31st.
As I bounced from bar to bar each week, (I know. It ain't easy being me.), I was so proud of the love and respect El Pasoans have for our local heroes. Not only were folks happy to buy a round, most offered to help in other ways including cash donations.
Some said they would schedule office holiday parties at places where they could buy Coors Banquet or stock up on it for private parties. El Paso rocks .. and so do our firefighters. For more info, click here.
Holiday Fire Safety Tips
While we're on the subject, let's give our heroes a quiet holiday season, huh?? Please keep these tips from FEMA in mind:

- Keep candles 12 inches away from anything flammable.
- Use stable candle holders, placed where they can't be knocked over easily.
- Consider battery-operated, flameless candles.
- Inspect holiday lights and toss those with frayed, bare or pinched wires.
- Read manufacturer’s instructions on how many strands can be safely connected.
- Water your Christmas tree every day. (Dry ones burn very hot and very fast.)
- Don't place your tree where it blocks exits and toss it after Christmas or if it dries out.
- Keep your tree at least 3 feet from heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, space heaters, candles, etc.
