Martin Luther King, Jr. day is on January 18th and this year El Pasoan's have an opportunity to commemorate the holiday by helping the community! The holiday is a great day to help promote equal rights for all Americans as well as taking the time to volunteer. This year, Amistad, in partnership with AmeriCorps, will host a food drive every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, Jan. 15 at 3210 Dyer.

Donations will be given to El Pasoan's who are struggling to put food on the table amid the pandemic. Donations will be distributed to El Pasoan's on Monday, January 18th to commemorate the holiday. Items accepted include cereals, pasta, rice, canned fruit, vegetables, beans, soups, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, juices, baby food and formula, frozen foods, granola bars, pancake mix and saltine crackers. Monetary donations can also be made through the Project Amistad website.

The El Pasoan's Fighting Hunger Food Bank is also looking for volunteers for the home deliveries on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 30 warehouse volunteers and 15 home delivery volunteers are needed. Volunteers can register through their website.

This pandemic has been rough on so many El Pasoan's, if you have the time and the means to donate and volunteer, please do so! This is a great time to go through your pantry and check out what you can part with. Donating and volunteering is a great way to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. day. As we begin 2021, and since most people have the day off,  this is a great way to help enrich the community- as well as your life.
