If You Visit These Two Texas Cities You Might Bring Bed Bugs Home
"Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite"... there's a reason why we say that. For one reason, bed bugs are disgusting & they can cause serious illness if they bite you. That's why whenever you're at home, or traveling, it's very important to keep your clothes and bedding clean. And according to Orkin, one of the top pest control companies in the United States, they listed 2 cities from Texas in their list of worst cities with bed bug problems.
Which Texas cities have the most bed bugs?
On Orkin's Top 50 Bed Bug Cities list for 2023, Houston ranked at number 44 (which to its credit, went down from being #41 last year).
The other city is Dallas-Ft Worth at #17. Just like Houston, it went down from last year (being at #16) but it's still a problem seeing both cities still on the list.
Of course they're not the only city to HAVE bed bugs, au contraire... Many other Texas cities can have bed bug problems. The top 3 cities were Philadelphia (#3), New York (#2) & Chicago right at #1.
How do you check for bed bugs?
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) listed easy steps on how to check for bed bugs:
- Check for a sweaty, musty odor; if you find one, there might be a huge infestation in your room
- Look for specks of blood around the bed or headboard or tiny black specks; yeah this one is pretty self explanatory...
- Look for exoskeletons; bed bugs tend to leave their outer shell around after shedding.
- Eggs; if you find eggs, time to remove your bed covers or pillow cases.
If you DO get bit, make sure to wash the bites with soap & water to help get rid of the itchiness and to prevent a skin infection. You can also apply a corticosteroid cream to the bites as well. Bites tend to go away after a week or two.
Of course if you STILL continue to feel effects, call the hospital.
So as I said in the beginning.... don't let the bed bugs bite...because they suck.
