Another Sinkhole Swallows Car In El Paso Due to Water Main Break

It happened again.

An El Paso driver was riding along, minding her own business, when boom! Sinkhole.

According to the El Paso Fire Department, the woman was driving on the 700 block of Feliz Place just before 3 p.m. when the road gave way.

The result -- she ended up almost completely submerged in a sinkhole.

Fortunately, the woman was able to get out on her own and she was not injured. Her car, on the other hand, doesn't appear to be doing as well.

According to El Paso Water, the sinkhole was caused by an 8-inch water main break. Talk about a tough break for the female driver. EP Water says people in the area may also be without water.

Our news partners at KVIA also report that El Paso Water says "the hole will be temporarily filled until it can be permanently repaved."

But this isn't the first time in recent memory El Paso has seen a road suddenly disappear from under a car.

A woman was almost taken with her car into the depths of a sinkhole on Gateway South and Yandell this past August. The cause...? A water main break.

In that instance, Good Samaritans actually jumped into action to hold the car back from being sucked down into the sinkhole while a woman was rescued from inside the car. As soon as she got out to safety, they let go and the car went completely under. Talk about a close call.

This one in South-Central El Paso may not have been quite as dramatic, but it's probably safe to assume it was equally frightening and surprising for the driver.
