4th Person Dies Looking For Forrest Fenn’s Hidden Treasure
Many have searched for almost ten years now for Forrest Fenn's treasure, worth millions of dollars. Sadly, the hunt has now taken another person's life. New Mexican art dealer and author Forrest Fenn created a monster I don't think he ever intended to when he hide a two million dollar treasure somewhere in the wilderness of America. Many people have gone out and tried to find the treasure but failed, ad sadly some have even died. There was a 54 year-old grandfather back in 2016, a 52 year-old pastor and a 31 year-old man last year. Now, it looks like the treasure hunt has tragically taken another life this year. Last spring, a 53 year-old Illinois man died in Yellowstone National Park searching for the treasure. Jeff Murphy went hiking up Rescue Creek Trail near Mammoth on June 7th and rescuers began search for him the next day. His wife told authorities that her husband went out searching for Forrest Fenn's treasure that day. His body was found the day after the search began, and the investigation found that the man fell about 500 feet down a steep slope. Murphy's death was ruled an accident and was initially kept quiet, but local television station KULR-TV was able to obtain th information through the Freedom of Information Act. The news station also contacted Forrest Fenn regarding the latest death in the search for his treasure and he declined to comment.
An interesting detail from this story was the fact that this man was in Yellowstone searching for the treasure. When looking further into this story, Forrest Fenn doesn't ever specifically say that the treasure is located in the state of New Mexico. He only says that he wants people to go out and enjoy the outdoors. It is thought that the treasure is most likely in the state, but that it could be anywhere in the Rocky Mountains. You can also read more about where the treasure could be located in Forrest Fenn's book, The Thrill of the Chase.
