17,000 New Jobs Are Coming To El Paso
A new manufacturing district is coming to El Paso and it's expected to bring around 17,000 jobs to the Borderland.
Phase one of the new "Advanced Manufacturing District" begins near the El Paso International Airport with the construction of 3 manufacturing spaces on 250 acres. A 50,000-square-foot manufacturing space along with two 100,000-square-foot buildings. The two 100,000 square footers will be suitable for an estimated 300 small - medium sized businesses.
All in all, they're expected to bring 4,000 engineering and tech jobs along with 13,000 high-skill tech jobs to the 915 by 2030.
"Once completed, it is expected to serve as a launchpad for an estimated 300 new small and medium manufacturing companies and bring approximately 4,000 engineering and technology jobs and 13,000 high-skill technical jobs to Far West Texas by 2030, solidifying El Paso as a leader in innovation and workforce development," a city spokesperson said Wednesday afternoon. - KVIA
El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson said that creating high paying jobs for El Pasoans has been one of his key goals and this new "Advanced Manufacturing District" is a huge step forward in seeing that goal through.
"This project will not only transform our local economy but also position El Paso as a national leader in advanced manufacturing and innovation.” - KVIA
This project first got off the ground back in 2022 with $40 million bucks from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to the West Texas Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing Coalition. Another $25 million will be going toward the complex near the El Paso International Airport as part of the Department of Commerce's "Build Back Better Challenge".
