The legendary guitarist is coming back to El Paso with a super group tribute to some heavy metal legends.

Zakk Wylde is bringing some friends to town January 18th for a tribute to the Godfathers of Heavy Metal ... who were also his bosses old band.

Black Sabbath featured Ozzy Osbourne on vocals from 1968 - 1978. Ozzy left Sabbath and started his own outfit in 1980 which would eventually find Zakk Wylde on guitar.

Zakk Wylde first teamed up with Ozzy in 1987 for the "No Rest For The Wicked" album which featured "Miracle Man". He's been in and out of Ozzy's band ever since.

He's since been involved with Pride & Glory and, most famously, Black Label Society. He also took his good friend Dimebag Darrel's place for the recent Pantera tour.

I've worked with Zakk several ties and I still remember the first time. It was at the KLAQ Balloon Festival around '94 or so when he was a surprise guest. I don't remember why but the decision had been made that year to not have a major league headliner and just have local bands play each day.

Zakk was traveling from one gig to another and happened to have a day off in El Paso. When The Q's program director, Magic Mike, found out, he arranged for Zakk to play.

No advertising at all, Zakk just showed up and played about an hour ... just him, an acoustic guitar and a grand piano. It was great and I got to spend most of the day just enjoying a few beers and talking with him. It was a very laid back afternoon.
