The Ramirez Pecan Farm is hosting a party to celebrate the ladybug release into the orchards. Check out some of the family-friendly activities that will be happening.

Have you ever wondered how ladybugs get their name? Or if they are a good bug or a bad bug for crops?

According to legend, during the Middle Ages in Europe, the people were having problems with their crops. Insects were taking over the crops and ruining them, causing people to starve. The people began praying to the Virgin Mary for help with their problem. Then even more insects showed up, this time little red beetles with black spots on them. But these new beetles were actually helping them, eating the bugs that were eating the crops. The people called the beetles "beetles of our Lady," which was shortened to Ladybugs.
