Slayer Forced to Nix First Alaska Gig in 17 Years

Slayer
Tim Tronckoe

Bad news to report for Slayer fans in Alaska. Although the legendary thrash band was scheduled to perform at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage on Oct. 22, the show has been canceled.

With the passing of guitarist Jeff Hanneman and departure of drummer Dave Lombardo, the Slayer lineup is comprised of mainstays Tom Araya and Kerry King along with guitarist Gary Holt (Exodus) and drummer Paul Bostaph (Testament / Forbidden / Exodus).

The people of Alaska don’t always get to see their favorite bands tour due to the state’s proximity, so Slayer’s cancellation of their Oct. 22 Anchorage show is certainly heartbreaking for many loyal fans. In fact, Slayer hasn’t performed in Alaska for 17 years.

The band was excited to play to the show, but logistical reasons have forced them to nix the gig for now. An official statement reads as follows:

Slayer was really looking forward to playing in Alaska on this tour, especially since the last time they were there was 17 years ago, but they ran into trucking and air freighting logistical issues. They hope to get up there in the new year. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to your continued patronage.

Tickets purchased for the show have been automatically refunded and that refund should appear on your credit card statement within 7-10 business days.
