A modern-day hero has invented an artificial intelligence bot that handles all those telemarketing calls for you, and wastes the telemarketers' time instead of yours.

On his website, Roger Anderson said he works in the telecom industry and has had the same two landlines for 15 years and therefore received a lot of telemarketer calls. He said his son once answered and ended up chatting with an aggressive telemarketer who said "some bad words," he decided to get to work.

So Anderson developed a bot that tricks telemarketers into thinking an actual human was answering the phone. But it goes beyond just saving you from telemarketers, the bot's goal is to keep the telemarketer on the line for as long as possible by tricking them into thinking a real person is on the phone.

Anderson said he was surprised at how long his bot is able to keep a telemarketer on the line.

To redirect your telemarketer calls, when a call comes in, tell them to hang on, then follow Anderson's instructions, available on JollyRogerTelephone.com:

  1. Press “add call”
  2. Dial robot at 214-666-4321. While you’re dialing, keep chatting into your phone like you’re trying to get Mr. Jones (“yeah – phone for you,” “Okay, he’s coming hang on…”, etc)
  3. Press “Add call” or “Merge call” or “Conference” or whatever will add the robot to the conversation.
  4. MUTE YOURSELF so your background noise doesn’t affect the conversation.
  5. Listen to the call, and hang up when the telemarketer hangs up.
