Going to the movies turned out to be a deadly excursion for one Florida man.

A man in Wesley Chapel, Florida was killed after he got into an argument with another man over a cell phone while they were at a movie theater on Monday.

The men were getting ready to take in a matinee showing of ‘Lone Survivor’ before the previews had even started, according to authorities:

The victim was on his cell phone; he was texting. We believe he was making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation between the suspect and the victim.

The altercation got more intense before the suspect, identified as 71-year-old retired police officer Curtis Reeves, whipped out a gun. A witness in the theater said that’s when things turned fatal:

Their voices start going up, there seems to be a confrontation, somebody throws popcorn, then bang, he was shot. I heard the victim say, 'I can't believe...,' then he fell on us. I asked if the guy was OK, and he started gurgling blood and then fell.”

The victim, who was at the theater with his wife, was identified as Chad Oulson, 43. His wife was also hit by the bullet and suffered injuries. She is expected to recover.

Reves was detained while police were summoned.

Cell phones have been involved with another death this week. On Monday, a man plunged to his death when he tried to retrieve his phone after it fell into the frigid Chicago River.
