A Virginia man asked an officer for a ride that turned into an arrest.

A Virginia man in Alabama recently got arrested when he attempted to get a ride from the wrong person.

A deputy in Alabama went to a gas station to refuel his patrol car when the gas station clerk asked if he would be willing to give someone a ride to Wal-Mart. The deputy agreed to give Alex Wiley Smith, 38, of Virginia a ride. Before Smith could be given the courtesy transport, the deputy explained that he would need to check his identification. Smith gave him his driver's license but the ID came back as cancelled. After, the deputy notified Smith he needed to search him before he could get into the patrol car.

Shockingly, Alex Wiley Smith agreed to the search of himself along with his backpack and two duffel bags he was carrying. This may not have been the wisest decision, since the deputy found a plethora of illegal drugs on the man. We're talking about two suboxone strips in his pocket alone. In the backpack and two duffel bags, the deputy found:

"0.5 grams of methamphetamine, 6.4 grams of marijuana, 0.7 grams of unidentified crystals, 5 baggies containing 5.2 grams of black tar heroin, a ball of black tar heroin weighing 13.2 grams, 18 needles, a cooking spoon, two marijuana smoking pipes, one meth smoking pipe, a grinder and a large quantity of plastic baggies commonly used for packaging small amounts of narcotics."

After the massive find, Smith was arrested. He was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and drug trafficking.

Maybe check your pockets next time before you get a ride from law enforcement. You can read more at the AL website.
