Alternative metal bigwigs Korn are taking their heavy sounds to Europe right now, before they head back to the States to kick off the second leg of their massively successful The Path of Totality tour. While playing a gig in Italy, guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer offered up some thoughts about the band’s current full-length, ‘The Path of Totality,’ and how the band took chances on this set by incorporating dubstep into the mix.

“We followed [our] creative path, which has led us down this road, where we’re including dubstep, which [singer] Jonathan [Davis] is hugely influenced by right now,” Munky told Musica Metal (translation via Blabbermouth). “My whole approach was sort of looking back through the history of bands that… like Pink Floyd, they pissed off a lot of their fans when they started introducing synthesizers. Even a few bands that introduced horns into their sound 30 years ago. It pissed off a lot of fans… ”

He added that you have to be willing to make a few fans red in the face with anger for the sake of creating fantastic art. “ …It’s that change that you have to be really be willing to kind of accept, and be willing to hear new ideas, and be willing to change, and that’s where you see real growth. And that’s where we’ve seen growth in our fans, and in who we are as people. And creatively, too.”

Korn return to the U.S. in April, and the second leg of the tour sets sail on April 20 in Lubbock, Tex., and runs through May 5 in Charlotte, N.C. Find the full slate of tour dates here.
