Bugs Bunny debuted in his own cartoon short 75 years ago, although Looney Tunes celebrated its 80th anniversary today (Oct. 19). The wascally wabbit with the Brooklyn accent went on to star in some of the greatest cartoons ever made.

Cartoons from that era, in general, were much superior to what would come later. It wasn’t until the 1960s that they began making cartoons for TV as opposed to cinema. That meant cheaper production techniques, artwork and stories. Some modern TV cartoons are brilliant in content but, artistically, the old theatrical shorts from the 1940s are just gorgeous compared to even the most clever Simpson’s or South Park cartoons.

One innovation that was not new to the modern cartoon era? Offensiveness. If you think South Park and Family Guy push the P.C. buttons, you need to see the way Warner Brothers 'toons, including Bugs Bunny, handled certain topics … race, for instance.

Here are the top three Bugs Bunny cartoons that portrayed racial minorities in a very different way than we would find acceptable today.

1. Bugs Gets the Best of a Dimwitted Racial Caricature

2. Bugs Does Blackface

3. Bugs Slanders Asians Because Patriotism
