2013 has been a year of redemption for Green Day. The band returned to the stage for the first time since frontman Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab in 2012. Both Armstrong and Green Day toured the world this year, but in a new interview, Armstrong says that the iconic pop-punk band will be taking a break following their Australian tour in early 2014.

In September 2012, Billie Joe Armstrong made headlines after unleashing a profanity-laced tirade the the 2012 IHeartRadio Festival. Two days later, it was revealed that Armstrong would be seeking rehab for substance abuse. After a bit of uncertainty, Green Day announced a 2013 North American tour in support of the their three latest albums ‘Uno,’ ‘Dos’ and ‘Tre.’

Since his return to the fold, Armstrong has been keeping busy writing music for Yale’s Shakespearian Theater, landing a role in the indie film ‘Like Sunday, Like Rain,’ teaming up with Norah Jones for an Everly Brothers tribute album + more.

While talking to BBC Radio, Armstrong spoke about Green Day’s upcoming break:

We’re going to Australia, doing a tour there and then we’re going to take a break. We haven’t really been doing much. So it’s just nice to kind of do some other things, y’know, when we get ready to do Green Day again, our batteries will be charged.
