I didn’t even know this happened until Joanna Barba showed me.

She also let me know many listeners asked for my thoughts on this.

Oklahoma played a home game against TCU on Saturday when THIS happened…

This particular angle doesn’t show this as well but…that’s OU head coach Brent Venables at the BOTTOM of that pile. Another video from a different angle makes it look like Coach V. might be the first man down in that massive pile-up.

So, you want to know what I think about this, eh? Fine. Here are my thoughts, in order, when watching this video.

1.)   HILARIOUS

Yeah, I don’t care which team it is. A bunch of finely-tuned athletes tripping and falling is going to make me laugh every time. I don’t have a super-sophisticated sense of humor anyway.

Three Stooges, Keystone Kops…and now, the Sooners. All it needs is the Benny Hill Theme playing in the background.

2.)   NOT A METAPHOR FOR THE SOONERS SEASON

Although this was suggested by multiple listeners, this pre-game dogpile is NOT a metaphor for the season. I mean, after that momentary setback, the Sooners went on to hang 69 points on the Horned Frogs and beat them by 24.

3.)   PERSPECTIVE

This might be more embarrassing if OU were 2-10. They’re not, though.  They’re 10-2. That probably means they’ll be left out of the championship tournament. This is where the perspective comes in.  During OU’s WORST seasons, they STILL usually have a better record than any of the UTEP Miner’s BEST seasons. See? Perspective is key.

4.)   THAT’S NOT A TOMAHAWK #94 IS CARRYING

I thought it was at first. After a few viewings, though, I realize the player is holding a selfie stick and phone. Carrying a tomahawk is NOT an OU tradition that I’ve ever been aware of. That’s probably for the best.

5.)   EVERYBODY IS OK

A pre-game pile-up would have been much worse if a star player suffered a season-ending injury. Everybody survived no worse for the wear, including Coach Venables.

6.) WHAT WITH ALL THAT SMOKE??

I thought maybe somebody had set the fog machine too high. Then I remembered: weed is legal in Toke-lahoma now. That’s just how the air is everywhere in the estate.
