Polishing off the Thanksgiving leftovers is fun but, dealing with the leftover grease and cooking oil is a major pain.

The city of El Paso is making it a little easier this year though!  Beginning Saturday, (11/25), all city Citizens Collection Stations will accept your used cooking oil and grease. You don't need a water bill as is usually required to drop off the goop but, no business or commercial customers are allowed.

Pouring cooking oil and/or grease down drains or toilets can clog things up as well as cause expensive damage. According to the El Paso Herald Post:

If residents cannot take cooking oil or grease to a Citizen Collection Station, Environmental Services recommends putting the grease inside a jar or container, letting it solidify, then throwing it in the garbage. Grease can be chilled in the refrigerator to get it to harden.

Citizen Collection sites are located all over town at these addresses:

  • 3510 Confederate
  • 1034 Pendale
  • 4501 Hondo Pass
  • 2492 Harrison
  • 121 Atlantic

Operating hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 8am - 4pm.  Click here for directions.
