"Death in Texas" premiered this past weekend at El Paso's very own Plaza Theater! The El Paso Community Foundation Plaza Classic Film Festival hosted the world premiere of "Death in Texas," which is set in El Paso and was filmed here and in Las Cruces in 2019 and early 2020. The red carpet was rolled out and the stars and director of the film introduced the film to roughly 300 people.

The film — written and directed by Scott Windhauser is being described as a "modern western" and and stars: Bruce Dern, Ronnie Gene Blevins, John Ashton, Lara Flynn Boyle and Stephen Lang. The synopsis of the film is as follows:

"Billy Walker (played by Blevins) is finally let out of prison after serving a seven-year sentence for manslaughter, only to find out that the only person who stuck by him during the entire ordeal, his mother (played by Boyle), is now dying of liver failure. After visiting her doctor, Billy learns that he must break a few more laws in order to get his mother to the top of the transplant list in order to save her life."

Because the film is set in El Paso, I think we all know that the "break a few more laws" part equals the cartel. Check out the trailer below, and check out the great aerial shots of the 915:

Unfortunately, the film only has a 17% on the Tomato-meter on Rotten Tomatoes. With one critic saying: "The last 30 minutes are somewhat tolerable, although it might as well take death to get there."

However, it does have an audience score of 83%, so there is hope.

"Death in Texas" is availble for rent across streaming platforms like VUDU, Fandango Now and Prime Video.

Now, let's all try to figure out the locations that are used in this film, I'll go first, Scenic Drive.
