Were their aliens hovering over El Paso, Texas this weekend? That seemed to be the question everyone was asking online after sporting some very interesting looking clouds: giant white clouds almost stacked upon each other.

What did El Paso say about these "Alien clouds"

These clouds were spotted by a lot of people on the East side of town; many people were able to take photos & videos of these clouds. Nicole Ramos, the sister of Alexandria Acosta from KTSM 9, caught this photo of the alien clouds by George Dieter.

And of course FitFam posted photos that THEY received as well. Some hilarious comments included "Gods connecting to the WiFi", "They came to get some Chicos tacos", "The Cowboys... next year is our year" or by posting the "Aliens" guy from the History Channel meme.

They certainly LOOK alien like don't they?

There's a real name behind these "alien clouds".

These "alien clouds" are actually called "lenticular clouds". They usually take the shape of "stacked pancakes" or... like a "flying saucer".

Altocumulus Standing Lenticular Clouds or (ASLC), usually form in the winter or spring when the air is stable and winds blow across hills and mountains from the same or similar direction at different heights through the troposphere. There are some beautiful shots of lenticular clouds forming over the Guadalupe Mountains taken from Images of Texas.

There's also a beautiful time-lapse video of these clouds forming in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

El Paso isn't the only city to have seen these clouds either; lenticular clouds have been seen to form over downtown Houston, as well as parts of Robertson & Leon County near Central Texas.

So next time you see these "flying saucer" like clouds in the sky; now you know it really is just a cloud. There's no alien spaceship behind it...that we know of...
