At the Drive-In Return to the Stage for First Time in 11 Years

Facebook: At the Drive-In

Post hardcore rockers At the Drive-In made their triumphant return to the stage on Monday (April 9), playing to a intimate crowd of 500 at Austin, Texas venue Red7.

The gig served as a warm-up for the band’s appearance at the upcoming Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on consecutive weekends — April 13-15 and April 20-22.

According to Rolling Stone, the club show featured the band firing through the ATDI classics ‘Arcarsenal’ and ‘Pattern Against User,’ before frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala climbed the rafters during the third song of their performance — ‘Chanabra.’ Towards the end of the 65-minute gig, the band performed fan-fave ‘One Armed Scissor,’ which you can see fan-shot footage of below.

The band’s initial run lasted from 1993 to 2001, during which time they released three full-length albums. After their split, Bixler-Zavala and guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez formed progressive rock darlings The Mars Volta, while the other members became the alt-rock outfit Sparta. Those hoping for new music from At the Drive-In had their dreams dashed by Rodriguez-Lopez  recently, who told NME there would be no new album and referred to the reunion as “more of a nostalgia thing.”
