Winter Weather Causing Road Closures And Early School Releases
We don't get much real winter here in El Paso and when we do, boy does it shake things up!
There's a lot going on today:
- Scenic Drive and Trans Mountain are closed.
- Spur 601 from US-54 eastbound is closed.
- The 5000 block of Fred Wilson is closed.
- All Department of Transportation sand spreaders are out sanding bridges and overpasses. Most are currently in the northeast.
- On Fort Bliss, non-essential personnel will be released at 12 Noon.
- "Liberal Leave" is in effect at William Beaumont Army Medical Center.
- Emergency and critical care services at WBAMC are available. For routine appointments, patients are urged to call to ensure they will be seen and/or to reschedule.
- Students at Loretto Academy were released at 12 Noon.
- Ysleta Independent School District is releasing elementary students at 1pm, high school and middle school students will be released at 2pm.
- El Paso Independent School District will release students early today. Middle school students at 1:30, elementary students at 2 and high school students at 2:30.
- As of 1:23pm, Mesa street is closed from Mesa Hills to Executive Center Blvd.
- **UPDATE**: As of 2:00pm, That section of N. Mesa has reopened!
- City employees have been released from work.
- The Zoo is closed. (Like anyone would go to the Zoo in this weather...)
- NMSU, EPCC, UTEP and Southwest University classes are cancelled.
- UTEP, and EPISD will have a delayed start tomorrow morning.
- All city sports, recreation and senior centers have closed.
- Sun Metro bus routes are being affected. Some are experiencing major delays.
- Landfills are closed and some, mainly west side, trash collections have also been affected.
- Department of Public Safety offices closed at 2.
City/County Emergency Management is monitoring the weather situation and working closely with City, State, County and School District officials.
