Where to Dispose of Your Live Christmas Tree for Free in El Paso
If you were fortunate to get a real live Christmas tree this year- it may be time to start disposing of it. Real Christmas trees, with proper care should last about five weeks- maybe even more; which means that if you got yours around late November, it may be time to start looking into getting rid of that tree! However, before you dump your tree into your garbage can awaiting the next trash pickup day- read this!
The Environmental Services Department's Citizen Collection Station, or the CCS, will be collecting and recycling live trees beginning December 29. The Citizen Collection Stations will be open 8 A.M. to 4 P.M., Tuesday through Saturday. They will be closed January 1-3 in observance of the New Year’s holiday. The collection sites are located at:
- 121 Atlantic (West)
- 4501 Hondo Pass (Northeast)
- 2492 Harrison (Central)
- 1034 Pendale (Mission Valley)
- 3510 Confederate (East)
If you're curious to know, the live Christmas trees will be recycled into mulch, which is available to all El Paso residents, free of charge.
Just a reminder that if you are taking your live tree to be recycled, remove all ornaments, lights and other decorations- you wouldn't want them to be lost forever!
Citizen Collection Stations also accept household trash, bulky items, tires (without rims), used electronics, and household hazardous waste. Residents dropping off any of the items mentioned above will need to take a recent water bill with a matching I.D. or show their CCS pass on our mobile app "ESD Works For You." An identification and recent water bill, or pass will be required to recycle live Christmas trees. For more information, check out elpasotexas.gov/ESD, download the free "ESD Works For You" app, or call (915) 212-6000. Again, the program begins on December 29 and runs until January 13.
