We had an Alt-Fact Quiz today that was all about things that had been either official or demonstration sports in past Winter Olympics. Some of what we learned:

Dog-sled racing was a demonstration event in 1932, 1952 and as recently as 1994. It’s probably for the best that they don’t have all these dog-athletes in South Korea this year. Having a gold medalist in a soup might cause an international incident.

Speed skiing was a sport through the 1992 Olympics. I remember speed skiing and assumed it was still a sport. But it was pulled after the ’92 games because a Swiss skier died during a practice run. They would often get up to speeds over 140 mph.

Ski ballet. Just think about that for a minute. What do you even think ski ballet could be?? Trust me, whatever you’re imagining is no where near as silly as the reality. Ski ballet was a demonstration event in 1988 and 1992. It never became an official sport because…well, because it looked like THIS:
