A Vermont college has now banned popular energy drinks like Red Bull and 5 Hour Energy due to "high-risk sexual behavior" and other "problematic behavior."

Looks like students at Middleburg College in Vermont are going to have to go without the caffeine induced all night study sessions for finals. The college campus has banned all campus sales of energy drinks, such as Red Bull, Monster 5 Hour Energy and more.

College officials are blaming energy drinks for "problematic behavior" in students. These behaviors include alcohol abuse, "high-risk sexual activity," and prolonged periods of sleeplessness. A flyer in the college's Wilson Cafe states that drinking energy drinks promoted unhealthy work habits, contributes to the campus stress and doesn't properly nourish students.

The Executive Director of Dining Hall Services, Dan Detora stated that he believes the initiative is comparable to banning e-cigarettes. The college's Community Council agreed and voted to approve the ban. The council is made up of professors, students and staff.

Students are not banned from consuming the beverages on the college campus, they simply can't purchase them on campus anymore. any students said that they would still be purchasing the drinks and bringing them to school, while others said that they would simple switch to coffee. Red Bull's caffeine content is equivalent to about an 8 ounce cup of coffee, while a 5 Hour Energy shot has the same caffeine content as a 12 ounce cup of coffee.
