UTEP’s Alvin Jones Signs With Baltimore Ravens
There isn't a whole lot of difference when it comes to being drafted in the 6th or 7th rounds of the NFL draft, or signing as an undrafted free agent. In fact, it might be better to snot get drafted. The money isn't a whole lot different, but you get to choose your destination. That means you can work with your agent to find a landing spot where a team might be more in need of your services.
Things have worked out well for former UTEP running back and 2017 5th round draft pick Aaron Jones. He became the lead back in Green Bay last year momentarily as injuries thrust him into that role. Unfortunately his own injuries also took the starting job from him. Although when healthy and he did top 100 yards twice, he should challenge for the starting spot this upcoming season.
Well, Aaron's twin brother Alvin Jones went a different route to the NFL. Alvin saw 7 rounds come and go, so he was able to sign with any team he wanted. Alvin ended up signing with the Baltimore Ravens, who aren't exactly stacked at middle linebacker position.
Does this guarantee Alvin a spot on the roster, absolutely not. Players taken in the last couple rounds or those who sign as undrafted free agents get cut all the time. But Alvin has found himself a good spot to be in, and if he can perform on special teams, he could find himself on the final 53 man roster for the Ravens.
