Sometimes part of the struggle of finding a job is getting a ride to the initial interview. Now, ride-sharing app Uber is here to help.

In a statement today, officials from the White House, Uber and Lyft announced a partnership to donate thousands of free rides to help military veterans. The White House's Joining Forces initiative, launched by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Biden, started with one simple question, what can you do to honor military members and their families who have given so much.

One of the ways Joining Forces is showing what you can do is through their partnership with Uber and Lyft ride-sharing apps. Uber and Lyft will be a part of the broader effort of Joining Forces to help veterans with transportation to work, job interviews and other necessary transportation needs.

Joining Forces' broader effort is to help veterans and their families deal with unemployment, homelessness and have corporate partners help more with the needs of America's military families.

Uber and Lyft company officials said the free rides will be made available to veteran's in the coming months through reputable veterans organizations and the Labor Department's Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program.

On top of this announcement, Uber has said that customers will be able to donate $5 towards additional rides for veterans on Veterans Day. Customers can download through their Uber app.
