New Mexico is getting a new form of ID that's in compliance with federal guidelines.

There are now two forms of ID available in New Mexico. A state issued ID that allows the bearer to drive, board commercial airlines and access federal facilities and military bases and a second "driving only" ID.

The Obama administration declared New Mexico driver licenses unacceptable for anything other than driving earlier this year. State issued ID's now comply with federal guidelines and a second ID's been created for driving only. The new ID is, basically, for those who can't prove they're legally allowed to live here.

The new "Driver Authorization" cards must be renewed yearly and will require applicants to be fingerprinted and undergo a background check. Those seeking the new, federally acceptable ID will be asked to bring extra forms of ID when doing so.
