Happy Veterans Day! I think it’s great when people choose to fly the American flag. If you don’t, that’s fine too. But, if you DO I think it comes with the implied responsibility to make sure it doesn’t look like something that got caught under a mulching lawn mower and spit out the other side.

Here are pictures taken just yesterday of a flag, somewhere in this area, that needs to be retired in the properly proscribed manner (carried off by bald eagles to use in their nest. I’m not sure about that so I’ll have to check.

You can follow the link to see where this tattered banner is hanging but I’ll give you this much of a preview: it looks very much like it’s being flown on MUNICIPAL PROPERTY! Meaning, somebody in some department somewhere is driving by this every day without doing anything about it.

O, say, can you see?

Jose?? Can you SEE?!? If not Jose, then whoever over in Sunland Park can take thirty minutes to shimmy up that light pole and replace that flag with a new one. Or, at the very least, take it down. Here’s a closer look.

I’ve got a feeling that the US flags at the South Pole and the Moon are looking better than this. As I say, this is right out on the main street of town in Sunland Park. I’d understand if it was at someone’s house. It wouldn’t excuse it, but at least I’d understand it.

Dear Sunland Park, New Mexico: C’mon guys…I know you’ve had your problems with your city government in the past. But all this would take is a trip to Home Depot and a requisition for a cherry-picker. Let’s get it done before the end of the week and we’ll call it a gift to the veterans in your fine community. Whaddaya say?
